After overnighting at the Wichita Airport Doubletree, we departed on Tuesday, March 5th at 5:50AM. It was about 4 degrees when we caught the shuttle to the terminal. Upon arrival in Atlanta we hustled through the airport, and arrived at our departure gate just as our flight was being called for boarding. One kind of cool thing we encountered but also somewhat disturbing, was that we didn’t need to show our boarding passes or our passports to board. A camera scanned our faces and recognized us! We arrived in St Lucia at about 3:30PM local. It was about 79 degrees, so in roughly 7½ hours (two time zones difference) we’d traveled about 2,600 miles and about 75 degrees.
We were staying on the western coast of the island in an area called Marigot Bay. St Lucia is quite mountainous, and the road travel is therefore a very slow, up , down and winding adventure. Virginia got car sick during the ride to the hotel.
Here is the view from the top of the very last hill before we began our descent down to our hotel. Our hotel is located near the small spit of sand sticking out into the water that you can barely see on the far shore, just slightly above and left of center in the shot.
